I often get asked what kind of props should I bring to my photo session. The answer to that is what makes a personal branding session well personal.
Here are my top 5 recommendations:
#1 Tools of the trade
What are the things that you just can not do your job without? It could be a calculator, a journal, your laptop, or art supplies. Whatever you need or use regularly is something that I often include in my client's session.
#2 Favourite accessories
We all have something we don't leave the house without. In my case it's sunglasses but I know for some of my clients it's a killer pair of shoes or jewelry that brings them luck or a favourite hat! Whatever is a part of your everyday ensemble is always good to bring because then people will comment on it when they meet you in person!
#3 Models/Other people
I'm not talking about actual models but they could be clients or a good friend who could pose as a client. When you work with people it's wonderful to show what it's like to work with you.
#4 Favourite beverage or food
This is a great one because not only do you get your favourite drink on set but it's a great picture for a social media conversation starter. It can be coffee, tea, wine, or your favourite cocktail. Chocolate, fruit, cake, etc... These types of images are designed for you to share something you love with your audience plus you can bring in your favourite mug, glass or plate.
#5 Musical instruments anyone?
Okay so maybe you're not musical but do you have a hobby that you've done all your life or just recently discovered? Bringing these ideas into your brand session can give people some insight into you as a person and connect you on a different level. After all, we want to work with people that get us and understand us.
I hope these prop ideas get your creative juices flowing for your next brand photo session.
